It’s a Results Business
In the modern business world, companies are placing increasing importance on efficiency and waste reduction. For Paul Caffery this created an opportunity to apply his skills as a trained problem solver and to start a business which taught people ways to improve their skills and productivity. He therefore started Results Consortium Ltd.
Although Paul had experience of small business he felt he required advice on getting started. BDS offered free impartial advice and guided him through the initial growth stages of his business.
As the business grew he started to encounter cash management issues, Paul said “I used to just put all my receipts in a drawer and then give them to the accountant at the end of the year,” However Paul soon realised, with the help of advisor David East, that this was no longer feasible. Paul recruited a bookkeeper and says “We now have control of our finances, with cash flow forecasts and graphs for turnover and profit, we can now see when money is coming into and going out of the business”
Results has grown steadily and Paul believes he has the infrastructure in place to grow the business further as the company now has many qualified advisors and verifiers enabling it to run as a private college under the EAL (EMTA Awards Ltd), City and Guilds, PAA\VQ-SET and SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative) awarding organisations.
Paul returns to BDS for advice on a quarterly basis to discuss where the business is going and any problems he encounters. He says of these meetings: “I treat BDS as my conscience; they ensure I remain focused on what is important for my business” Paul believes BDS has helped him get through many of the challenges of running a small business “BDS and its staff have become friends in business. When we have tough times they show they care and respond by giving advice, I always know they are at the end of the phone should I need urgent help.”
