Become An Enterprise Mentor
We are looking for experienced business people from the Braintree district to become Enterprise Mentors. Mentoring a smaller business is a great way to give something back to your community. It could be anything from a few voluntary hours a month to full-time business advice.
Learn more about becoming an Enterprise Mentor.
What are the benefits of being a Mentor?
- Personal fulfilment from investing in others
- Opportunity to develop your communication and coaching skills
- Enjoyment from helping others to succeed
- Opportunity to reflect on your own business and pass on lessons learned
- Working with other businesses gives you a better insight into your own
What kind of Mentoring do clients need?
The Braintree District is unique in Essex for the number of new business startups but it’s not easy. They face issues like:
- Lacking the right mix of skills to run a business
- Pressures on time, energy and commitment
- Financial understanding - tax, costs, bookkeeping
- Marketing, increasing sales and delivering great customer service
Your clients may arrive with any mix of these or simply want to spend time coming up with new or better ideas.
How it works
A great Enterprise Mentor needs a good blend of excellent coaching skills and real world business knowledge. If you are interested in giving some of your time back to the local business community then kick things off by meeting one of our business advisers.
At the initial meeting we’ll ask you more about what you hope to gain by mentoring and explain in detail how the process works. You’ll need to bring a CV that shows your experience and skills. We also prefer you to have an appropriate business qualification or SFEDI accreditation. We can also help you develop your skills by working towards the Level 3 Award in Enterprise Mentoring (see below).
We’ll pair you up with one of our clients and as a new Mentor you’ll do up to five observed sessions following one day of training.
Legal and Ethical Issues
Mentoring is a relationship of trust and confidentiality. We have clear guidelines for issues such as:
- equality and diversity
- data protection
- health and safety
You’ll also need to agree to abide by the Code of Ethics of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council which you can download here.
Level 3 Award In Enterprise Mentoring
As a local Business Mentor we’d like to offer you the chance to develop your skill by obtaining the Level 3 Award in Enterprise Mentoring. This course uses a mixture of classroom work, self-directed learning and practice sessions to boost your capability as a business coach. We can give you more details at the first interview.
